When do EFS burst credits run out?

Model a repeating workload and see whether Bursting Throughput is sustainable—or merely hiding a future bottleneck.

Runs entirely in your browser. No AWS account or data is used.
01 / INPUTS

Describe the workload.

Only data in the Standard storage class contributes to the bursting baseline.

Use CloudWatch MeteredIOBytes. EFS meters reads at one-third of their physical throughput.

03 / WHAT THE MODEL USES

Simple enough to explore.
Explicit enough to trust.

Baseline

50 KiB/s for every GiB stored in EFS Standard. Small file systems still receive at least 1 MiB/s of metered throughput after credits are exhausted.

Credit balance

The model uses the documented maximum of 2.1 TiB of credits below 1 TiB of storage, scaling with file-system size above that point.

Consumption

Traffic above the storage-based baseline drains credits. Quieter periods below that baseline refill them, up to the maximum balance.

Scope

This is an educational forecast for a repeating daily pattern—not a substitute for load testing, CloudWatch data, regional quotas, or AWS guidance.

Model based on the Amazon EFS performance specification and official CloudWatch metric guidance.
